Almost no industry spends as little on research and development as the education industry. We have educators, who are often poorly trained in effective research techniques, doing research in their spare time, and we have a small number of independent researchers in universities.
We need to improve funding for research and development, and develop ways to test out educational ideas (while safeguarding the education of the people involved) in schools.
We can't rely on research done by educational technology companies to be unbiased, and our children's futures are too important to rely on anecdotal evidence.
Recommendation: Dramatically increase R&D budgets for education (or provide a grant system like the National Council of Science does for Science in the US), and award these grants to independent researchers.
