  Supercomputing and Computational Thinking

  I am at the Supercomputing Conference in Seattle , Washington. I am a K-12 teacher. There are rich resources and ideas here that need to be disseminated in classrooms. Some of that work is that of Dr. Robert Panoff at www.shodor.org, and there are many components to his work.   I think that if he was able to distribute his work and Pat Phillips ideas were widely shared more teachers would be interested. I think the Dept of Education should sponsor teachers to the Supercomputing Conference next year in Salt Lake City.

  Leveraging Virtual Professional Development

  How can we expand opportunities and awareness of virtual professional development to all educators? How do we develop empowered and "highly connected teachers", a concept often referred to by the DoE's Karen Cator? Tech savvy educators are leveraging Web 2.0 tools to build personal learning networks which support their interests and professional development needs (see Steve Hargadon's Classroom 2.0 site for example: ...more »

  How can we expand opportunities and awareness of virtual professional development to all educators? How do we develop empowered and "highly connected teachers", a concept often referred to by the DoE's Karen Cator?

  Tech savvy educators are leveraging Web 2.0 tools to build personal learning networks which support their interests and professional development needs (see Steve Hargadon's Classroom 2.0 site for example: http://classroom20.com).

  Web conferencing tools are also being used to bring together educators in new ways. There is no excuse NOT to use these technologies to provide rich, personalized, and authentic experiences for teaching professionals. Another example of this is the Global Education Conference (http://globaleducationconference.com), co-founded by Steve Hargadon and myself.   There also needs to be more research into PLNs and the role that they can play within traditional PD efforts.
