Technology now gives our educators and students the opportunity to learn with the world, not just about it. The challenge: how do we help empower a new generation of young citizens who are aware of and comfortable with interaction with peers worldwide when most schools do not have the flexibility to pursue such connections?
The education community and private sector companies have identified global awareness, ability to work in teams and a familiarity with technology as some of the skills that our young people will need to have to effectively work in a global environment. Research has clearly demonstrated that authentic interaction with the world’s students across the curriculum results in enhanced learning, improved reading/writing test scores by our students and a heightened motivation to learn.
How can we leverage new technologies to connect all US classrooms with partners abroad in a way that seamlessly integrates into current curricula, so that global education is not an “extra?”
